Songs Of The Summer 2012: Part Eight

With summer in full swing, we asked our Demo contributors, some Canadian musicians and a variety of U of T students what song they hope will represent their four months of sun.  Over the next weeks, we will share what they said.

Travis, Matthew and Feurd (The Elwins)

Travis

Song: Paint Your Little Pebbles

Artist: John Southworth

Album: The Pillowmaker

A wonderful wee song. It reminds me that the small things in life remain important. It’s always good to slow down and “smell the flowers”, as they say. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…John is the best.

Matthew

Song: Alejandro (Skrillex Remix)

Artist: Lady Gaga

The band and I have been working out – doing some weight traning – and have really been enjoying it. I really dig the mental/physical workout of pushing myself beyond my current comfort (or familiar) zone to get better results.

I have started listening to “pump up” music while working out and have a few new favorite artists because of it. One of my new faves would have to be Skrillex. He really gets me going with his bass wobbles and crazy grooves. I think his remix of the song Alejandro really has the tone of how I’d like my summer to go. It’s groovy, it pumps me up and helps me get psyched to do uncomfortable but necessary things. It’s positive and it makes me laugh.

Feurd

Song: Party

Artist: Beyoncé (ft. Andre 3000)

Album: 4

This song always puts me in a good mood. After we covered “Countdown” with Luke Lalonde, I became pretty obsessed with Beyoncé’s most recent album. I really love the production on this track and the beat is super rad. I’m looking forward to lots of fun in the sun and parties with people this summer at shows and on tour. This track definitely sets the mood for that!!
