Song Of The Week: Justin Bieber—“Sorry”

By Hazel Sands

I never thought I’d say this, but guys, we need to talk about Justin Bieber. On October 22 he blessed the world with “Sorry”, another single from his upcoming album Purpose. And the track is totally stellar. “Sorry” is the catchy dance-floor bop filled with sweet, beachy notes. Its just the song we need to sweep us away to a tropical island as the winter approaches. And similar to its predecessors “Where R U Now” and “What Do You Mean?” it’s filled with synth beats and a melody that reflect Bieber’s evolving sound. You can easily hear Skrillex’s production in the song, and their collaboration on Bieber’s previous singles prove they are a force to be reckoned with.

2015 has truly been Justin’s year, shocking the world with the re-emergence and the reinvention of his entire persona. He’s totally transforming himself from a haughty, spoiled teen star into a hard-hitting powerhouse of pop music. He’s proving to the world that he’s come into his own style of music with the release of “What Do You Mean?”, an international overnight success. Even his latest single, “Sorry”, as Justin croons to an unidentified lover “Is it too late now to say sorry? Cause I’m missing more than just your body,” are lyrics miles away from the unapologetic brat the world was accustomed to. Bieber is beginning a new era, becoming a new honest person and reinvented sound. This new Justin is one that I think Canada could come to be proud of, and I know that I’m anxiously awaiting his release of Purpose on Friday.
