Songs Of The Summer 2012: Part Thirteen

With summer in full swing, we asked our Demo contributors, some Canadian musicians and a variety of U of T students what song they hope will represent their four months of sun.  Over the next weeks, we will share what they said.

Mark Andrade (Paradise Animals)

Song: Sunshower

Artist: Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band

The opening vocal samples accompanied by the sampled ‘rainshower’ always bring a smile to my face. I literally fell in love with this track the first time I heard it (which, for me, doesn’t often happen. I tend to digest music over time). I was sitting on the back balcony of my best friend’s house, drinking sangria on what, at the time, was one of the hottest days of the summer. This track came on, and like so many fond musical memories, I instantly associated this track with sunshine and warmth. It is one of those tracks that I play anytime I DJ, or have people over. I then keenly glance around the room to see if people react the same as I did. For me, I love how music can transport you temporally, how it can shift a feeling inside of you, and how it embeds itself in your memory. This song achieved all of this. I love the slide guitar that opens the track and continues to just return throughout the track. It’s playful, groovy and light; everything you could want in a summer track.
